Good Mexican Food

Have you ever asked yourself, “How did that just happen?” Kind of like, how did the Patriots just come back in the second half?! Not quite. Have you ever followed your intuition, your gut? Have you ever let go and let God?

“It’s not about how to achieve your dreams, it’s about how to lead your life, … If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you.” – Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

The quote above struck me years ago when I first heard it. It speaks to so much about life and decisions. I heard a man I respect speak a few weeks ago and he said, “Life happens in moments. We make a decision. Yes or No.” How many times have you worried so much just to find out the decision was a lot easier when the moment of truth came to a head.

There’s something to be said about the time that leads up to a moments decision. That time leading up to a call, letter, or text message helps us understand the why behind the questions and answers. The time leading up to a decision allows for us be one with ourselves and let our truth come to the forefront.

This past week has been nothing short of a roller coaster. Peaks and Valleys and everything in between. On Monday, I had felt so alone and dealt with so many internal voices that I was working to combat. A good friend was upset with me, rightfully so. It seemed as if the downward spiral was getting darker and darker without any light at the end of the tunnel. I remember it very vividly. It was 4:20pm on Monday afternoon and I hadn’t eaten yet for the day. Yes, it was that kind of day. Not my proudest moment, a day I had broken away from the consistent successful habits of nutrition, exercise, and self-development.

I knew I had to eat. I was exhausted and hungry. The closest thing in sight was a Mexican restaurant. Always a go-to! I sat down by myself in the empty restaurant with only a few people sitting at the bar. The waiter came over to take my order and he could see the exhaustion and loneliness in my eyes. He asked, “What can I get you?” Struggling to get the words out, I said, “Water and a big chicken burrito with everything in it.” I literally didn’t care what the nice gentleman brought me. I would’ve eaten the kitchen sink if he brought it!

I ordered, began to snack on the chips and salsa. Salsa was bomb! And then, my phone rang. I looked at the screen and didn’t recognize the number. I answered, “Freddie Silveria speaking…” The lady on the other end was a God sent angel! God truly gives us only what we can handle. He makes it a point for us to understand and feel what’s needed to be appreciated for us to move forward. This lady was someone in the community I regarded as a professional, expert, the best in her industry. And she was calling me; I should’ve been calling her! She immediately wanted to learn and help me. I was blown away by His workings.

Quickly, I grabbed a napkin and my pen. I began to take notes. She said, “Can you meet me in a hour.” I said, “Yes. Of Course. I’m on my way!” The night was nothing short of magnificent!

Times will get tough. Stress will happen. Breakups are inevitable. However, “It’s about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way…” On the note of mercy, God is forgiving. He is compassionate and wants goodness for us. Leading our lives the right way consist of making small choices with good intentions regularly.

Interestingly enough, as I write this I hear the sound of pouring rain in California. The last few years we’ve been in a drought and as a state we’ve done everything we can to conserve water. Well now, California is in abundance of water and rain. God gives us time to understand. He gives us time to come back to Him when we get lost. He gives us free will to decide if we want to follow His love.

From the bottom of my heart, I’m truly grateful for His love. I firmly believe that because of Him and examples like the lady that gave me a call this week at a time when I was ready to throw in the towel… We wouldn’t be where we are without Him. When you have God on your side… follow your heart, follow what’s right, follow His love and He will always give you what you need.

Let go, let God, and devour good Mexican food!
